Alabama’s First Freestanding Emergency Department
Our
freestanding emergency department is just like any other emergency center. We’re not on a hospital campus, so you can easily experience local, hassle-free medical care. This idea of community-focused emergency

Our FED is conveniently located in your neighborhood community for quick and easy access to emergency care. Instead of navigating confusing parking lots and numerous buildings, you can pull right up to the front door in a time of medical crisis. Whether you’re experiencing abdominal pain, a broken bone, or another ailment, our local emergency department can help you. 24/7 Availability
Like other emergency rooms, UAB Medical West’s FED is open 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year. You’ll receive the same treatment as hospital-based emergency care but at a much quicker rate. If the need arises, our FED is fully capable of a seamless transition to a nearby hospital. Ambulances and helicopters can easily reach our center with our spacious emergency bay and helipad. Our team will coordinate with the receiving hospital so you receive a quick, smooth transition at every hour of the day.

This 24,342 square-foot development is complete with ten exam rooms, multiple trauma rooms, board-certified emergency physicians, a full-service laboratory, X-rays, CT scans, general & vascular ultrasound rooms, and more.
No Appointment Needed
Our FED doesn’t accept appointments so that we can offer our patients the highest quality emergency care right when it’s needed. We honor the 30-minute pledge like other hospitals in the area—our team will see you within 30 minutes of your arrival time, or your visit is free. Our promise isn’t meant to be a method to speed up your medical care but rather a commitment to high-quality patient care when you need it most.
